Orchard/Vineyard Spreaders

Orchard and Vineyard Spreaders for Compost, Lime, and Fertilizer

Tight rows. Difficult materials. No compromises.

If you run an orchard or vineyard operation, you already know most spreaders are not built for the job. They are too wide for the row, too tall to load with a skid steer, and they throw material everywhere but where the trees and vines need it. Stoltzfus orchard and vineyard spreaders are built the other way around. The narrow hopper fits your row spacing, the low loading height keeps filling easy and the machine stable, and the banding deflectors place fertilizer, compost, and lime right at the base of the trees or vines instead of between the rows.

Available in 2-ton and 4-ton models, plus a narrow-profile banding model for high-density plantings, these spreaders handle fertilizer, compost, wet lime, mulch, poultry litter, and most pelletized materials. Built in the USA. Backed by 80+ years of manufacturing experience.

Get to Know the Stoltzfus Orchard and Vineyard Spreader Lineup

There are 30-year-old Stoltzfus units still working in vineyards and orchards today. That kind of longevity doesn't happen by accident.

  • Narrow hopper sized to orchard and vineyard row spacing—navigates tight rows without damaging canopies or low branches
  • Low loading height for easy skid-steer filling and improved stability
  • Wide conveyor and steep 53-degree hopper side slopes to keep compost, stockpiled lime, and inconsistent materials moving.
  • Optional banding deflectors and rear center limiter place material at the base of your trees or vines, not scattered between the rows
  • Dual Spinner Spreader with stainless steel blades for consistent distribution across material types
  • Fully welded unibody construction, built to last

Available models include:

  • 2-Ton and 4-Ton Wet Lime series — the workhorse orchard and vineyard models for fertilizer, compost, and lime
  • 4-Ton Redhawk ground drive — ground-driven spread rate that stays consistent with your travel speed
  • Narrow Profile Banding Spreader (NPB-175) — engineered specifically for high-density trellis applications where space is tight
  • Custom-sized — built to your row width, wheel track, or hopper shape when a standard model won't fit

“We finally used the spreader. Actually it was a little while ago (at bloom time) and it was absolutely great. We took the time to calibrate it and it turned out to be time well invested. It was very very accurate. The deflectors worked perfect. Really like the machine. So much easier to handle bulk. Fertilizer application in fruit requires you to be quite accurate and it was all I hoped it would be.”

Common Questions About Orchard and Vineyard Spreaders

If you're considering a new orchard spreader or vineyard spreader, here's what growers ask us most before they buy.

What is the minimum row spacing your orchard and vineyard spreaders can handle?

The standard 2 & 4-ton models are 75 inches to the outside of the tires, with a 60-inch-wide hopper. The Narrow Profile Banding Spreader (NPB-175) is just 52 inches at its maximum width, even with the banders extended, making it a strong fit for high-density trellis configurations. If your row spacing is unusually tight, call us. Custom builds are available in-house.

Can I spread compost in an orchard or vineyard with this spreader?

Yes. The wide conveyor and steep 53-degree hopper sides are built to keep bulky compost moving toward the spinners instead of bridging. With the banding deflectors and center limiter, you can place compost in a band at the base of the trees or vines rather than broadcasting it behind the spreader.

Can the same spreader handle both compost and pelletized fertilizer?

Yes. Stoltzfus orchard and vineyard spreaders are built for multi-material use. The wide conveyor, steep hopper side slopes, and dual spinner design handle compost, stockpiled lime, fertilizer, and poultry litter without needing a separate machine for each product.

Will it spread fertilizer at low rates?

Yes. With the included fertilizer kit, the spreader applies rates down to 125 lbs/acre. The gate and travel speed set the rate, and the banding deflectors keep that fertilizer concentrated where the crop can use it.

What is the advantage of banding deflectors?

A standard spinner broadcasts material in a wide arc, much of which lands in the middle of the row rather than at the base of your trees or vines. Banding deflectors direct material straight to the root zone.

Can it handle mulch and wood shavings?

Yes. Mulch, wood shavings, and similar light, bulky materials are on the list of what these spreaders handle.

Can it spread lime in a vineyard or orchard?

Yes. These spreaders handle ag lime along with compost and fertilizer. If lime is your primary material across open fields, compare with our dedicated Wet Lime Spreaders, which are built specifically for dense and wet lime.

What size do I need — 2-ton or 4-ton?

It depends on your acreage and tractor. As a rough guide, a smaller orchard or vineyard that values maneuverability often fits the 2-ton; larger operations that want fewer refills lean toward the 4-ton. Call us and we will help you choose.

What is banding, and how do the deflectors work?

Banding places material in a concentrated strip, or band, instead of throwing it in a broad arc. The banding deflectors and rear center limiter direct fertilizer, compost, or lime to the base of the trees or vines. You feed the crop, not the row middle, which cuts waste.

Is the NPB-175 Variable Rate Technology ready?

VRT-ready is available as an option on the NPB-175. Confirm with our team when ordering to make sure it's included in your build.

Do I have to buy through a dealer?

We encourage customers to work through a dealer and will connect you with the closest location. In areas without dealer coverage, we handle direct sales as well. Either way, you can talk to us first so we can make sure you're in the right unit.

How does shipping and delivery work?

It varies by order. Some customers pick up directly from our facility. Dealers often coordinate transportation for their region. In many cases, we arrange shipping directly. Call us and we'll walk through the logistics.

What support is available after the sale?

We answer the phone. If you have questions about calibration, spread performance, troubleshooting, or parts, our team is available to help. That support is part of buying a Stoltzfus spreader.
